We've Moved!

Ross Ellis Stewart Architect is now a Glasgow-based practice!

It was not an easy decision but I decided back in August that the practice would need to reposition in order to thrive. “If you don’t like something about your life then change it!”, has always been my mantra and something just wasn’t working up in Perth.

Since launching in 2021 the practice has had a great start with a series of fit-outs for legal firm Burness Paull as well as advising clients in the private medical sector and charities sector. However, with the current downturn in the office sector, new projects have not been forthcoming and a difficult commercial decision confronted me. Stay in Perth or try repositioning the business closer to my clients and contacts in the central belt.

When just the right property on the south side of Glasgow came up, it presented an opportunity to return to my old stomping ground. A mad dash to secure the property and get ours on the market followed but luckily everything fell neatly into place and we were able to make it happen.

I studied architecture and urban design at the University of Strathclyde and worked for Turley Associates in Glasgow as an urban designer then RMJM and Aedas as an architect before the 2010 recession took me away from Glasgow. Back then, I dreamed of having my own practice in the city, so although I have had to move around a bit to get the right experience, it feels good to be back in Glasgow at the helm of my own venture.

With so much happening currently in Glasgow with the Glasgow Innovation District and the focus on regeneration of the riverside, it feels like a good time to be back in the city. The office sector even seems to be slowly recovering with more and more fit-outs starting on site and investment in real estate beginning to increase.

There is still a lot of hard work ahead of me, but I am hopeful.
