300 Bath Street, Glasgow
Reimagining common areas within an existing office building
Ross Ellis Stewart Architects were invited by 300 Bath Street to develop proposals for a refresh of the common areas within the building including finishes and lighting to lift lobbies, corridors, staircases and WCs.
The design focuses on the building's status as one of very few examples of high-tech architecture in Scotland, a movement in architecture and design that utilised innovative structural forms and advanced building services. 300 Bath Street straddled this movement and the post-modern movement in a unique blend of high tech external structure and post-modern architectural forms with pitched roofs and corner turrets.
The finishes were selected to give a nod to the late 1980s/early 1990s when the building was constructed and to take elements from the striking colour scheme of the building's facade. This period in design has had a revival recently and the design fuses retro aesthetics with contemporary materials and colours with sustainability in mind.
