The Garment Factory, Glasgow
Retrofit of a former garment factory to form CAT-A+ offices
The Garment Factory is an award winning, best-in-class office development in Glasgow's Merchant city. The project took a near derelict former clothing factory which had a second life as council and NHS offices before falling into disrepair and created a fit-for purpose, sustainable, flexible, office building.
Following an extensive de-furbishment and with the retrofit of 21st century services and creature comforts the building was brought resoundingly back to life as contemporary office space over 8 levels.
Ross was project architect with Morgan McDonnell Architecture from inception to completion playing a pivotal role in the design of the building. Ross developed an efficient layout, enhancing the building's net to gross ratio through sensitive internal alterations, revealing the building's original layout and character through historical analysis and thorough site investigations and crafting a game changing commercial offer with a strong brand identity.
By retaining the character of the original building and adding modern facilities such as a flexible reception lounge and cafe accessible at street level, high spec cycle storage, changing and showers, and multi-purpose games room, a truly unique workplace was born.
The project has received multiple accolades:
